Resort History

Welcome to Springstead Lake Lodge. The history of The property all begins back in the very early 1900’s. The resort was built by the Good Land Co. an apparent subsidiary of the Pike Lake Lodge,(now the Moose Jaw Resort). The resort was established as a wilderness retreat for those patrons who desired a more remote adventure. This was before Springstead even existed. It was known as Powell in them days. On January 17, 1925 the property was sold to Ms Parsons who ran it as the Sherwood Girls Camp. The property operated as a retreat for girls until March of 1928, when bankruptcy forced the closure of the property.
During the Great depression the property was held by a bank and then to an investment company where it sat until the late 1930’s.

Bert & Alice Reid purchased the property on August 5, 1939 for $3000. The Reid’s and their family ran the property as Reid’s Resort for many years. You will find many pictures from this era adorning our walls. Reid’s resort was well known for the tame deer that lived on the property. In the 50’s the property was sold to the Mertes family. Throughout the 50's, the property changed hands several times.

The Resort was purchased in 1962 by Ed Borgis. He and his wife ran the property for 28 years. On the wall in the bar is the original picture of the 34” Walleye that was caught from Springstead Lake in 1962 just after Borgi (as he was known) purchased and moved here. Many great fishing trips were had during the 60’s 70’s. Borgi had a favorite saying when asked about the fishing. He would say “ the fishing is always good”.

Below is the last known picture of the original lodge built in the mid teens. The lodge was hit by lightning in 1979 and burn’t to the ground. In 1980 the current lodge was built to replace the original. The fireplace still stands to the South of the current lodge as a monument to the great history of Springstead Lodge.
